Southeast of Muscat the coastline breaks up into a run of narrow limestone inlets, sheltered bays and small islands. That is Bandar Khayran. It is a protected area, the water is unusually clear for somewhere this close to a capital city, and it is reached either by boat from Marina Bandar Al Rowdha or by kayak from the closer bays.
The reefs are the reason most people go — the snorkelling and diving here are the best within easy reach of Muscat — but the inlets themselves are the attraction. There are wrecks, sea caves and beaches that can only be reached from the water.
Living nearby
The stretch between Muscat and Bandar Khayran — Qantab, Bandar Jissah, Yenkit — is where the resort-adjacent property sits. It is scenic, quieter than the western suburbs and increasingly built up, and it is one of the areas where foreign buyers can own freehold within an integrated tourism development. Expect a longer drive into the city than from Al Khuwair or Ghubrah.
